Closing date

We are looking for an experienced software developer to join our ImCity team to help deliver several exciting new projects. Based in either Basingstoke or Manchester.

What you will do

The initial focus of this role is the development and improvement of back-end components for our ImCity platform. These components handle the real-time data exchange between the central database and numerous roadside devices and third party services. The primary programming language used by the team is Java so you should be highly proficient in this language, and be able to produce high-quality code with minimal supervision. You should also be able to perform code reviews and provide helpful feedback or mentoring to other members of the team. You should have experience with SQL, HTTP and other standard protocols for data exchange. Previous experience with traffic or other real-time systems is desirable but not essential.

We keep our technology choices under constant review, and as a Senior, you will contribute to that process. An active interest in emerging languages and technologies is therefore highly desirable.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Computer Science 2:1 or above, or equivalent qualifications or experience. Significant experience of working on collaborative software projects (either professionally, academically or as part of an open-source community) is essential.

You must be a good communicator, able to articulate and explain your technical work both verbally and in writing. You must also be a problem solver, able to convert a user story into code or a bug report into a fix. You should be competent in the fundamentals of software design – able to go from a blank sheet to a viable design and explain the choices you have made. You must be confident dealing with suppliers, partners and customers.

As we are a small team, there is potential for you to branch out to work on different areas and, as you continue your career with Dynniq, the breadth of your work will naturally increase. Some of the skills that might be useful in this regard are:

  • Web-applications - HTML, Javascript and frameworks such as Angular
